Chitose Abe founded sacai in 1999 after being mentored by Rei Kawakubo and Junya Watanabe. sacai specializes in the avant-garde Japanism style, a hybrid that merges casual and formal-wear, genderless and without strict lines. The brand is most famous for its “spliced” garments that fuse together not just two garment styles, but two entire cultural patrimonies, producing avant-garde yet wearable designs.
